‘We had almost thirty efforts at goal tonight,’ the Millers Boss said, ‘so it felt like a bad night for us when they scored, though it was a great finish, there were two huge errors that led to that goal. If we hadn’t won this game it would have been totally unfair. The game should have been out of sight at half-time so credit to their goalkeeper who had three or four saves and if he saves them like that every week he’s not going to be a League Two goalkeeper.
‘At half-time I said to the boys that we need to be more clinical and put the crosses in the corners, get headers on target but I couldn’t have been any more delighted and we managed to get good minutes into players tonight,
‘In fairness tonight we probably should have scored a lot more and the referee summed it up at half-time when he told me you’ve just had eighty-five per cent possession and you’re drawing.
‘I thought Joe Powell, who has had a lot of niggles during pre-season, he hit some wonderful passes and some wonderful crosses.
‘We’ve had twenty-one players leave the club and we’ve recruited numbers so it’s going to take time for the partnerships to gel. We are still a work in progress but we have to remind ourselves that we still need to churn out wins. But the Rotherham fans saw a performance tonight that they associate with good times here and fair play to the fans who travelled up from Crewe.’
