After a press briefing earlier this week with the club featuring on Sky Sports News and Look North to name but two, Stewart told the Star he wants the name of the new stadium sorted before the new year.
“We don’t want a name that will have to change after a time and then probably change again,” said Stewart. “So, we want a ‘base’ name with a prefix that will be the naming rights holder.
“We’d like to have decided on a name by Christmas because we have to think there’s a marketing job to be done in the months ahead so we’ll want a name.
“There’s a river and a canal and so ideas like Waterfront, Waterside, Riverfront have all been tipped into the mix."
The latest MillersMAD poll was topped by 'The Foundry' suggestion and fans have been putting their ideas forward on our website over a number of months, which Stewart has been made aware of.
He added; “We have invited fans to make their suggestions. Indeed, we invite anyone because this will be a Community Stadium not just a football ground and will have uses for commercial, retail, leisure and more than just football.
“It’s great to see something come out of the ground after all that has gone into the last three years of planning, preparation, drawings, designs, all the groundwork.
“Everything is going to plan and on schedule for the July 11 completion date.”
