Speaking to themillers.co.uk after the game, the gaffer was upset at going out of the Johnstons Paint Trophy, but was more than happy with the performance of the team.
“Obviously we’ve gone out so it’s extremely disappointing but I was more down on Saturday because the performance was poor. I thought the performance tonight, especially in the second half was emphatic and we were a country mile in front of Fleetwood but we can’t allow for two goalkeeping errors and we can’t allow for missing those chances at the other end.” he said.
“We should be in front in the first half and then Adam (Collin) makes a huge error but we get ourselves back in the game with some good play and we’d missed a couple before that as well. We then laid siege to their goal but they take the lead through what is a great strike, but my goalkeeper should save it. He’s had a bad night tonight but he’s helped us into the top six so I can be critical of him tonight, but not as a goalkeeper."
“I thought if we’d have equalised we’d have won the game and we’ve shown the gulf in class, but people only look at the results especially in cup ties.”
“How can you use the word ‘sensational’ to describe a football match when you’ve lost? You’d think you’d get locked up for it. But we have been sensational tonight and we’ve torn them apart. Unfortunately, in a cup tie as players and as set of supporters you’d rather scrape a win like we did at Hartlepool, but we’ve had the reverse of that tonight.” he added
