The Yorkshire Post today carries a feature on football finances in Yorkshire, including some fairly extensive comments from our own Tony Stewart on the financial position of the Millers.
Here's the key points of what he had to say and some quotes:
- The wage bill is going to be higher this year than last ("our wage bill will go up this year but what we spend will go further than it did last season. There are plenty of footballers looking for jobs.")
- Ticket sales so far are up 15-20% on last year but he recognises that the club has to "get some out of their cupboards to support Rotherham because, in recent years, a lot did not want to be involved. We have a better idea of what they want and we are talking to our sponsors."
- The club is in "good shape" and, as far as TS is concerned is financially stable and prudently run ("I have put the necessary funding in to move the club forward - but I don't borrow money and the club does not have an overdraft. Those with big overdrafts are spending more carefully but we do not have to make those cutbacks because we live within our means.").
