Congratulations go to Scunthorpe United for gaining a much deserved promotion to the Football League Championship following their 2-0 home win over Huddersfield Town at Glanford Park. Two goals from Sharp in the 68th and 84th minutes - the latter being a penalty - secured victory and promotion to the higher level of English football for the first time in 44 years. They *just* need to beat Tranmere Rovers next Saturday to secure the title. Scunthorpe United 1st, Huddersfield Town 17th.
Bristol City could gain automatic promotion to the Championship next weekend (depending on results elsewhere) following their 2-0 home win over Yeovil Town at Ashton Gate in front of 19002 fans. Johnson put City ahead in the 43rd minute with the points wrapped up with an Orr penalty in the 71st minute. Bristol City 2nd, Yeovil Town 5th.
Nottingham Forest must beat AFC Bournemouth next weekend to keep alive their hopes for automatic promition, and did their chances a power of good with a convincing 4-2 away win over relegated Brentford at Griffin Park. Pinault clearly hadn't read the script as he fired Brentford ahead in the 16th minute. The lead was doubled with an Ide goal in the 47th, but that's as good as it got! Prutton hit back with Forest's first in the 52nd minute, Commons levelled in the 68th, Holt put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot in the 74th with Commons netting for a second time in the final few moments to round off a miserable second half collapse by the home side. Brentford 24th, Nottingham Forest 3rd.
Blackpool have all but secured a play-off place, but still harbour slim chances of automatic following a 4-1 battering of Northampton Town at Bloomfield Road. Again the script was not being followed as Cox gave the visitors a half time lead with a goal in the 42nd minute. Blackpool hit back after the break when Brandon levelled in the 49th minute. Hoolahan put the seasiders ahead in the 55th with a penalty. Brandon netted his second in the 62nd minute. Dyche completed a miserable second half for the visitors when he put past his own keeper in the 84th minute. Blackpool 4th, Northampton Town 15th.
If Oldham Athletic are going to make the play-offs, they are going to have to do better than loose at home 2-0 to strugglers Cheltenham Town! Odejayi got the League One strugglers off the mark with a 22nd minute strike with Finnigan doubling the advantage in the 31st minute to set up an unlikely win! Oldham Athletic 6th, Cheltenham Town 19th.
Carlisle United could well nick 6th place on current form following their 0-1 away win over Rotherham United, who were relegated as a result. Gray scored the only goal of the game to condemn the Millers to League Two football next season. Rotherham United 23rd, Carlisle United 7th.
Swansea City may well miss out on the play-offs following their 2-2 draw against AFC Bournemouth at Dean Court. The Cherries went in a 2-0 lead with goals from Wilson (22 mins) and McGoldrick (60 mins), but then let the lead slip as Tate and Trundle salvaged a point with goals in the 83rd and 88th minutes. Five players were booked in injury time! AFC Bournemouth 18th, Swansea City 8th.
Tranmere Rovers look set for another season in League One as they could only claim a point on their travels against Millwall at The New Den. Sherriff gave Rovers a 9th minute lead. Dunne then hit twice in the 49th and 67th minutes. Both sides had to settle for a point as Zola levelled in the 69th minute. Millwall 10th, Tranmere Rovers 9th.
Doncaster Rovers keep Leyton Orient's future dangling as they both battled out a 1-1 draw at Brisbane Road. Alexander gave the home side a 36th minute lead, which was cancelled out by a Lockwood goal in the 54th minute. Leyton Orient 20th, Doncaster Rovers 11th.
Port Vale put one over local rivals Crewe Alexandra at Vale park with a 3-0 home win. Hulbert (36 mins), Constantine (59 mins) and Rodgers (63 mins) made sure of the points for the home side. Port Vale 12th, Crewe Alexandra 13th.
Gillingham secured a single goal victory over Chesterfield at Saltergate with a 90th minute goal from Crofts. The defeat leaves Chesterfield 4-points adrift of safety with 3 matches left. Chesterfield 22nd, Gillingham 14th.
Bradford City drew with within 2 points of safety as they beat Brighton & Hove Albion with a Paynter goal in the 35th minute. Brighton & Hove Albion 16th, Bradford City 21st.
