Despite falling behind in the first half to ex-Miller Kevin Ellison's strike, the Millers dominated much of the match and got their rewards with Daniel Nardiello's second half brace which sealed the points.
The gaffer was pleased and felt it could have been more comfortable, speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield afterwards.
"I think the performance was excellent from start to finish. To go in 1-0 down at half-time I felt for the players, but you have to be quite strict with them and get them going again in the second half.
"I think a fair reflection would have been 3-1 at half tiime. But there's going to be games like this and it's about what's inside you. It's not about ability then, it's about what's in your heart.
"I just knew when the first goal came that we'd get a second and if we`re being honest we were so much on top we should probably have finished with four or five.
"At half time I said a few harsh words to one or two who I thought could step up in the second half and they did that and gave us a real performance. My last word to them coming out was go and repay the supporters for the Southend game.
'We will be very critical about the goal we conceded though. We got a corner and ten seconds later it's in our net. Morecambe are a good side but there will be tougher games", added Evans.
