Knill critical of set piece defending

The Millers could have a share of the points if not the win, if they could defend properly from whipped in crosses, which unfortunately they cant and its now starting to cost the team precious points.

Speaking to the club offical website www.themillers.co.uk Alan Knill bemoaned that fact. "We conceded two goals from set pieces - now out of 15 we have conceded, seven of them have been from set pieces so that's where we have to be better. Take that out and there wasn't much in the game, if anything their keeper was busier than ours so I was disappointed that we lost.

"You warn against things like that and good teams don't lose to set pieces so we have work to do and it brings us back down to earth again to refocus for a winnable game on Saturday.

"The only way out of that is to work hard on the training ground and that's what we will do. Neil Cutler made just one save and they hit the post but their keeper was far busier, today wasn't to be for us although you can take positives out of it.

However, Knill was pleased with the teams attacking play, "But at least we had a go in the second half and if anyone was going to score it was us again. But the stats don't lie and maybe it's a mental thing for us. We did some work on that in training and we were still undone by set pieces."

"We didn't stop going forward so you think why weren't we like that in the first half. Ryan Taylor looked bright and sharp when he came on while Will Hoskins scored another goal so there are positives to take out of the game.

"Oldham were on the same number of points as us - 14 before the game and sometimes when you are winning it's more difficult for a manager because players do think they are the best thing ever. The way we are a good team is if we work hard and stop other teams from playing.

"But it took us 20 minutes to make a tackle in the first half and we had to adjust our shape as no one was getting hold of the ball. Then we looked better at 4-4-2.

"We have good players in this team but sometimes when you are doing well you are at your most vulnerable. It's a reality check as in our positions we can't afford to lose many games."
