"I thought it was terrific for an hour,” Evans told Millers Player.
“I thought afterwards the experienced lads preserved a bit of energy, and quite rightly in my opinion. I know we’ll look at goal difference and want to go and win by five or six, but to be fair to Exeter they changed their team around which left gaps at the back as they took a gamble.
"We would have settled for 10-9 as long as we win the game, and it was a really reaction for the boys. It was a good display of football.
"Our effort, tenacity and work rate were there and we got the fourth with Craig Morgan's great volley and then went through the motions a little bit. But they saw it out and they’ve deserved their day off tomorrow."
Evans added: "We’ve had some special performances but it was in line with Chesterfield, Northampton and Bradford. They’re all good teams and so were Exeter. Paul Tisdale is a good manager who will be hurting but we wish them every success for the rest of the season."
