Boss Ronnie Moore was more than satisfied with his teams display despite going down to ten men after half time and losing 2-1 at Oxford on Saturday.
The Millers still sit in fourth place ahead of tomorrow's game with Accrington Stnaley at DVS, but Moore saw some encouraging signs including a solid debut for Omar Daley.
He said afterwards: "I thought it was a fantastic performance from them today.
"We only had the ten men from so early in the second half and we still pressed and got forward. OK they've have a couple of breaks but we've been brave and kept the three at the back, four across and two up front.
"But we had the effort, the determination and commitment and we've been punished really for a lack of concentration from a bit of inexperience from the young kid (Callum Kennedy). It's a shame really because I thought his all round game was good.
Kennedy, on loan from Swindon, was red carded on his debut after giving away a second half penalty as he fouled James Constable in the box.
Moore added: "To lose Ryan Taylor (injured) and then have the lad sent off and then Woggy nearly saved a penalty, it's just our fate at the moment. But we've got to knuckle down and keep going and if they play like that with that determination and commitment then it's got to change."
Asked about the two penalty claims during the afternoon, Moore said: "I think the ref could have given the first one, though I'm disappointed Alf didn't score really because the lad's caught him, no doubt about that, but when he's fell on the floor and got up he's got an open goal to aim at and he's toe-poked it into the side netting."
"The goal was set up by Omar on debut and Nicky Law's got great awareness and pace. His movement for the goal was fantastic and a great bit of football. But, he should have repaid the compliment to Omar in the first half instead of looking for Alfie. The number of times he looks for Alfie when it's on for other people well you pull your hair out with him sometimes."
