Speaking to Radio Sheffield post match, Steve Evans said.
"We're dissapointed, but when you the top sides if you make mistakes it doesn't matter how much of the ball you've got or how much passion you have, if you make mistakes you'll get punished because they're a good side."
"We got a great start and went in at half time at 1-1 and it was a shame because it should have been three, the game should have been over as a contest and young Tongey made a mistake and they get a goal from that and get an early second goal as that changes the balance of play a little bit. They then had a little spell and another mistake gives them a goal, but we've seen enough today to say that a number of players will play a big part going forward as we know and there will be an number of players which we let go, butevery game we have between now and the 5th of May will tell us a little bit more."
"Not many teams will come here and get the home crowd on the edge of booing really, they were silent and that was the quality of the performance, I dont think Shrewsbury were in the game at all until they got the goal and obviously they got a spark and a lift from that and they've got some good players, thats why they're up there challenging for promotion."
"We need to learn from the errors, Tongey and Johnny Evans are both good players but when you playing the bigger games in the league sometimes it comes down to mistakes. I don't think if I was sat there as a neutral I dont think it was a 3-1 scoreline given the chances we missed in the second half and that they didnt miss any chances, but obviously we're dissapointed but theres a lot to work with."
The Millers conceded at critical times, just before and just after half time, ; "They were mistakes, Tongey makes a mistake, he fails to clears, he knows it,he's come it at half time but we don't jump on people, they're aware of what they've done, we work on it and I'm sure he won't make that mistake again if he's selected next Saturday, but from that point of view I can't ask for any more. I said to the players I ask for effort, passion and commitment and that thats the minimum to play for in our sights."
"I don't think that anybody with any Rotherham United intrest can go away and say they've not had that today, but we need to add to that the killer instinct and put the ball in the net because thats the difference every week."
"I've seen a lot of tackles, commitment and passion today, I've not watched them enough to know if thats their game, it wasn't at Crawley so I think we've suprised them today but you need big game players and quality players in your squad to win at places like this but that will come, but unfortunately that won't come until the summer."
"It is squeeky bum time and I spoke to the boys long and hard that Shrewsbury would be nervous, Oxford and Crewe drew today so it's a shame really because we should have got something out of this."
"We'll look at the DVD but a number of times in the first half we broke 3 on 3, 2 v 3 we brok and got ourselves in a number of areas with the ball at our feet and the final ball has been sloppy or the choice of pass has been poor."
"We've a lot to work with, we've some big characters and leaders of men in our dressing room and everyones working closer together with the same objective, Shrewsbury Town are a good football club, with a good manager and good supporters, but if thats the standard to get promoted, which it is then I'll look forward to next season immensely!"
"I've seen a lot of fight and determination, I need some goalscorers, I need some boys to put the ball in the net, I need some boys that can open up defenses, We know what we need, we know roughly where they are, I've said we'll be active in the summer, we'll have our targeted players and we'll work hard adding to what we've got, but it's fair to say I wouldn't be here if I thought the squad was good enough to go into the new stadium and be a promotion team next year, we'll do the hard work that has to happen in May and June. That will happen I assure the supporters, I think they know it, they know Steve Evans wouldn't have walked away from an outstanding football club, outstanding owners and an fantastic squad of players and I've walked away from that becuase I believe is going to be here is far better. But you've got to deliver that rather than talk about it."
"Only one thats got a knock is Revell, I think it was a red card challenge ,I think the referee decided it was a yellow because he thought it was a yellow, I don't really want to talk about the referee today, I'll probably land myself in trouble and people will say there's the excuses early. I don't think my lads got a fair crack of the whip today, I think the referee will be disappointed with his performance but we don't blame the referee, we made a couple of big errors at the back and got punished, and when your chances came we didn't take them and in football thats what happens.."
