Lewis Grabban netted the only goal just after half time as the Millers sealed their first three points of the season at the first hurdle.
And Scott was pleased with most aspects of his sides performance speaking after the game.
He said to the waiting media: "It was a tough game. It was obviously very hot and they are a good side that are expected to be up there so any win would have been a good win today.
"I thought we controlled the first half, without really creating too many chances but we dominated possession. We wanted to start the second half as fast as we started the first, and we got a fantastic goal and looked dangerous.
"They then changed their system and with the increased breeze it started to help them and hinder us with our front three so we changed it to make sure we were solid to finish the game off."
Scott continued with his assessment and praised sponsors man of the match Jason Taylor. "We kept the ball very well, although sometimes we were a little slow with what we did in the first half, but we did keep possession and our front three caused them a lot of problems.
"It was a good driving run from Jason Taylor (leading to the goal), who had a lot of the ball today, and grafted very hard.
"He organises very well and we are trying to give him more confidence when he is on the ball, and make him realise he is a good player and he can pass.
"A clean sheet is always a bonus and you build your success on defensive solidity," Scott continued. "We have Michael Raynes on board now, he is a very good player, but the two lads Brown and Cresswell have done well in pre-season and that partnership is flourishing, so Michael has to break into the side."
