Wembley 11 years on- The fans remember

How old were you when we went to Wembley?

I was only 9 years old at the time.

What was your best memory of watching Rotherham before Wembley?

I would have to say being the mascot on the 21st Feb 1995 against Oxford. It was a cold Tuesday night and it ended 1-1. I played around with the ball with Shaun Goater and had my picture taken with him. I loved it.

Describe your day, what did you do and when?

From what I remember of it, it was a great weekend. Me and Grist went down for the weekend on the coach. We stayed in a nice hotel just next to Heathrow airport and had a great weekend in London. As for the game itself, I remember getting to the game about four hours before kick off, before many people got there.

I was dressed head to toe in Rotherham gear, I had the hat, scarf, shirt, flag, everything. I remember walking up and down Wembley way, and standing on the bridge two hours before kick off seeing a sea of red with only small pockets of blue, The cry of "RED ARMY RED ARMY" was prominant for the whole time.

On entrance to the ground we were relatively near the top but had a great view arching around the back of the goal where the hords of Millers fans were waving their flags and signing loud and proud all the way through. I sat next to a woman who gave me sweets all the way through which made it all even better.

The game itself was a bit of a blur for me to be honest, apart from the defining moments, I just remember standing on my chair waving my flag, singing "Red Army" as the team paraded the trophy at the end of the game.

What is your best memory from the day?

Best memory, just looking around the arc behind the goal just after we scored the second goal, thousands of flags, all red and white. It is a sight I will never forget.

Memory that will always stay with you?

Overriding memory has to be seeing the swarm of fans on Wembley Way, blowing their horns and waving their flags, completely outsinging the Shrewsbury fans.

Wembley or Brentford?

Brentford for what it meant to the club and the fans. The atmosphere, the
way the day went, from us losing and Reading winning, to us doing what we
did. Last minute, pitch invasion......the whole day. Unforgettable.
