Internet Millers Programme Article- Gillingham

Our first league fixture was against Sheffield Wednesday, which we won 4-3 at home. We have then had to wait over a month before the second game of the season against Darlington, which we played this morning. Darlington are away at Mansfield in the afternoon so their fans team stopped off en route for a league game.

The only time these two teams have met was at the Worldnet competition in July in the last 8 when we came out comfortable winners 2-0 on our way to winning the competition. Therefore we will go into the game confident of a result on home soil with a full strength squad.

The games then come more regularly for us with seven games before Christmas. This includes a mouth watering double header against a strong Sheff Utd side who have in the past called on players from their juniors for games and have also recruited 11 new players over the summer, something we are envious of as our recruitment drive has yet to bring in any new players. This is one of the problems our relatively small fan base brings but in truth it is more enjoyable being the underdogs beating some of the larger teams in terms of support. This is one of the reasons our 2-0 victory against Man Utd was so special this summer.

The biggest game in the remainder of 2005 will be the game on the 17th September against Notts Forest. This is a re-match of the Worldnet semi final, which the Millers won 1-0 by golden goal. Forest have some superb players in their ranks especially in their midfield, new manager Andy Parker will have to find a way to combat the threat they bring going forward and may look to hit Forest on the break – a tactic that worked so well in July.

At the top of the UK league table Motherwell sit top after 2 games with maximum points. Hearts have mirrored their senior team by making a superb start and also boast a 100% record. Sheffield United are the other team to win both opening 2 games while new boys Preston are in third having played a game more.

If any fans want to represent Rotherham around the country and watching the senior team in an afternoon then log onto www.internetmillers.co.uk for more details.
