Having been on the attack for the first five minutes or so we took a deserved lead when JV raced through on goal, only to see a low shot saved. However the rebound fell to Burnsy, who from 25 yards lobbed the keeper and defender and the ball nestled in the top corner.
The lead was doubled within ten minutes and this time it was roles reversed. Burnsy was put through and his shot was saved and JV was on hand to place the ball home, this time from 12 yards out. It was lambs to the slaughter as a beleaguered Scunny team couldn’t get out of their own half and we continued to pound them with JV, Denti and Burnsy all going close. Eventually we made it three when Gaz’s long throw was spilled by the keeper and Burnsy had the easiest tap in from two yards out. His next goal, which sealed his hat-trick and our fourth, was something special though. When JV was chopped when through on goal, Burnsy stepped up and curled a delightful free kick in to the corner of the net, leaving the home goalkeeper motionless.
The second half was a much more even affair, with the game being played mainly in the middle third. With the home side playing for pride, we weren’t allowed as much creative freedom and came under the cosh for periods of time. However, we managed to weather the storm and Burnsy went on to score his fourth of the game and his ninth in three games when he latched on to a through ball and dinked the ball past the keeper.
With both squads having a bare squad of 12, a few tired legs crept in and the game began to peter out. There was time however, for Gaz to curl a looping 25 yarder in to the top corner, which sealed a great day for the Internet Millers. The game was played in great spirit which is more than can be said for the afternoon game!
JV, Steve and Denti.
