Farnborough Review Part 2

Last updated : 20 October 2004 By Denti

Second Half

Farnborough started the second half much more brightly than the finished the first, and started to cause IMFC some problems. They reverted to a
4-4-2 formation and suddenly seemed a lot more attacking minded.

Farnborough came close where one of their players beat the offside trap, and cut in from the wing and shot, only to be denied from a great save from Mark.

Another good chance fell to them, where their player drove into the box, but was denied after their shot was headed onto the bar by myself. Luckily the shot came at head height, as if it had have been low it would have almost certainly been a goal.

The Internet Millers realised more was required from them, and the passing started to improve again.

Mid way through the half the fifth goal came, where new boy Nick latched onto a through ball, and half volleyed past the oncoming goalkeeper.

The remainder of the match continued to be played out in excellent spirit, and despite Farnborough creating many more chances in the second half, the IMFC went on to record a 5-0 win after a solid team performance.

Final Score: 5 – 0

Match Summary

It was an excellent result for the Internet Millers against a side that had gone fifteen games unbeaten, and provided the bounce back in both team spirit and football form that was needed.

Some of the best passing football that we have ever put together was played, and the game was played in excellent spirit. Credit goes to Farnborough for much of this, as despite the result their lads did not moan at each other, at the referee, or any of our players. They are a credit to themselves and the IFA, and I would recommend any team play them given the opportunity.

After the game both sets of lads enjoyed some food in the Belvedere pub, and then Farnborough continued their long journey North to
Halifax, where unfortunately they lost 2-0.

Opposition’s view on game

"Thanks for the good wishes lads. Our day ended 0-7 on aggregate!

Well the unbeaten run comes to an end but a good effort all round.
Rotherham were (the) best team we have played this season as well as the biggest. They passed us off the park in the first half as we
tried a new formation. That said, we gave away three soft goals
before they scored a well deserved fourth.

The second half was much better and rather than lay down and give
up, we worked really hard and a return to
4-4-2 worked much better.
We created lots of chances and hit the bar but it was
Rotherham who
got the only goal of the half.

Good match, played in the right spirit. With a full squad we would
have run them close.

Cheers to the
Rotherham lads for the food at the pub, much
appreciated. They breed them big in
Yorkshire by the way. Having
played a team who were mostly over six foot, we then got to the pub,
only to find that the barman was at least seven foot six."
