Starting Formation and Tactics
The IM started in a 352 with Denti sweeping in behind Duds and Copey. Dan started in the anchor midfield role alongside Steve R. Gav maintained his position in the hole behind the front two after his return in last weeks friendly. John2 started at right wing back and young Lee returning off holiday started at left wing back.
First Half
It was rather slow start by both sides but the Internet Millers enjoying the majority of possession in the middle of the park. The first real half chance fell to the Millers after about 5 minutes of play. Jebu collected a throw near the edge of the box and chipped over a couple of defenders into the path of a bursting Gav. A knock into the box almost saw Chris Grist get on the end of it but good defending saw the ball clear.
Doncaster were at time knocking the ball about well in the middle of the park but good shutting down by the IM midfield meant it was mostly long balls into the backline that was dealt with easily enough. Jebu almost put IM up when he picked the ball up from a throw in, quickly spun and hit a hard low shot that the keeper got down well for.
With the Millers getting on top without really playing at the sort of tempo hoped for a couple of half chances in quick succession fell for youngster Chris Grist and then Symon who played the last 20 minutes of the first half up front.
The first chance came as Jebu collected the ball on the wing from a knock down the line by John2. Out near the corner flag one defender was megged and then another outpaced as he got to the barline and squared for Chris. However, the defender was just first to react and read the danger well to clear for a corner that amounted to nothing.
The second chance was very much the same as the one described above except Symon was the striker attempting to get on the end of the cross but the Donny defence held well.
The millers were bring frustrated to just half chances but eventually on about 25 minutes Gav broke the deadlock with a great piece of quick thinking. A long ball took the keeper by surprise as he came well out of his area to the left hand side of his box, a somewhat mistimed kick fell to Gav who hit it first time hard and low. With the keeper scrambling back to his net he was helpless as the ball nestled into the bottom corner.
You would have expected this to settle the Internet Millers but for some reason the passing got sloppy and whereas in the past few games our breaks had been quick and penetrating the timing of the passing and runs seemed slightly out.
Consequently, for a period of 10 minutes the ball was given away cheaply by both sides and in the dying seconds of the first half the IM almost paid for this.

A chipped ball into the box saw IM goalkeeper Dave and the Donny striker both jump for the ball at the same time. There was some confusion in the box and then the Donny striker put the ball in the net. Instantly Dazza who was reffing for us gave a free kick as like me from the back it looked very much like the striker jumped into the keeper and then prodded home.
However, with a number of people on the pitch saying it should not have been a goal and a number of others with a better angle saying it should have been a goal there was a long period of confusion as to whether the goal stood. Eventually, Dazza stood by his first decision which in my eyes as a referee you have to do. Either way it was harsh on Donny as it was 50/50 at the best but big thanks to their lads for not making a big fuss about it.

The Internet Millers went in at half time 1:0 up having struggled to settle in a competitive game.
