Rumours had been rife around the IFA circuit that the Millers were a team that happily encouraged the use of drink in the lead up to games and three astonishing interviews at the club's training camp today have shed more astonishing light on to the story.
Club captain, Martin Dent was the first to mention the issue when he spoke of drinking plans for the Worldnet Weekend and he left journalists truly gobsmacked. “I have always been battered at Worldnet for the last few years and don't plan on not being this year! It's as much about the fun as the footy....”.
Then ex striker now utility man Joe Roebuck further shocked the packed media hall. “I'm pretty much the same as Denti - I go out and drink much more than I normally would before a game of football when I'm at Wordnet. Normally feel like crap in morning but then it wears off quickish and then I'm fine. As long as I keep off the spirits there‘s never much problem!” said Roebuck seemingly finding the matter amusing.
Manager, Steve Burns was last to speak and he refused to condemn the apparent drunks. “Oh aye, I agree about getting battered, if it doesn't affect your game too much then go for it. I don't play very well hung over - I don't function well full stop but I'd always say that the football takes a bit of a back seat to the social element. Some sides don't sleep and get completely wasted so we aren't too bad.”
There were four people scheduled to be talking to the gathering press today but the fourth, James Dudill, was absent from training and was last seen going in to the New Broom pub on Sunday morning.
