Internet Millers Players Arrive Back Home

They left Boddington Hall in Leeds on board a British Airways jet and landed at Herringthorpe in Rotherham.

Outgoing manager Steve Burns led the team down the steps, followed by Jonathan Veal, who has also quit his managerial role.

The players and coaching staff at Herringthorpe shared an emotional farewell before being driven away in a fleet of cars. Also on the flight from Leeds were IMFC officials, plus wives and girlfriends who had stayed in a three-star hotel for nearly 48 hours.

About 150 IMFC fans braved the sweltering conditions at Herringthorpe to welcome the squad home and many were wearing shirts with Burns' name in tribute to the departing manager. Had Internet Millers won the tournament in Leeds they would have landed at the northern section of the airport where fans could have greeted them.

Despite the disappointment of losing to Lens in Sunday's last 16 tie, the crowd applauded the squad's arrival. But there was some disappointment that the players were quickly driven away without signing autographs or shaking hands with those who had turned up to greet them.

The players will now take an extended holiday before returning to their club sides in time for the new season starting in late August. There are no official Internet Millers fixtures announced yet although Saturday 19th August could be the potential next date, with Scunthorpe rumoured to be the opposition.

Internet Millers' elimination from Worldnet marked the end of an era as the managerial team of Steve Burns and Jonathan Veal depart having led the team to Worldnet glory in 2005 and the IFA league title in 2005/2006 and there looks set to an overhaul of the squad with the departure of several other players possible. With his playing days looking behind him long serving IMFC defender Paul Elliott is almost certain to be announced as new manager with his younger brother Gareth to be appointed his assistant when he returns from his holiday in Ibiza.
