Jebu's Preview: Tough Scunny Test For Millers

Last updated : 14 October 2005 By Millersmad Staff
A new look team in terms of management, formation and positions is proving successful thus far with an opening win against local rivals Sheffield Wednesday. A fantastic performance against Darlington and then a superb victory against one of the better teams in the IFA, Nottingham Forest, make up the 3 victories.

Our next opponents Scunthorpe are no strangers to IMFC and are one of our old adversaries throughout the years. As IMFC was building itself as one of the stronger IFA teams the Scunthorpe lads had a fantastic season finish 3rd in their golden time 2002/03 season. Since then IMFC have had the better of the Scunny lads in most games but as of late we tend to cancel each other out and end in a draw.

In our Worldnet winning year last season IMFC faced off against the Iron Filings a total of 4 times throughout the season. The first was a comprehensive 6-0 away victory for IMFC with a first half hat rick from Jebu setting the Millers up for a comfortable win.

The second game came in horrid conditions down at Bill Hawes in Bramley where it wasn’t fit to walk a dog let alone try to play football. In hurricane conditions the game ended 1-1, both sides notching a goal each half with the wind behind them.

The 3rd game was a friendly that was split into three 30 minute games; it ended 0-0 in each game with both sides a little cagey about showing their hand for Worldnet. Finally the Millers drew 1-1 with the Iron Filings in the group stages of Worldnet before going on to win the tournament. Scunny were the only team the Millers didn’t manage a competitive victory over throughout the weekend.

Scunny at Worldnet
IMFC have faced the Iron Filings 8 times over the years (inc. friendlies) with a record of won 3, drawn 3, lost 2, scored 20 and conceded 9. Both losses came in Iron Filings golden year of 2002/03 with the Millers having the better of the two sides in more recent times.

In what is sure to be a tough game IMFC are not too far off full strength taking a competitive 13 players away with them. Shark will be looking to get a clean sheet while in defence El Yeard will be looking to marshal the backline along with Captain Denti, super Duds, the experienced Paul El and ex striker “right back’s easy” Jebu.

The midfield will be a competitive zone full of players looking to prove their worth. Gaz will be looking to build on his good early season form and after a few games in both Sunday league and for IMFC the fitness machine Dan will want to run the Scunny midfield tired with his constant tackling. Young Lee will be looking for more of the same sort of form that he produced last year that saw him break through as a first team regular. The young whippet JV will want to cause havoc down the wings against the Scunny full backs and perhaps notch a goal.

Making his debut for IMFC will be Robbo who is a good friend of the Elliotts and a die hard RUFC fan. I’m expecting a hard tackler that often likes to drink copious amounts of alcohol off the pitch. I believe he is a midfielder and it will be good to get some fresh blood into the squad. Talking of Elliotts, Jammer can be used as either a forward or midfielder and I’m sure he will be looking to get in the goals for this game. Finally, our leading striker and Worldnet superstar Mr Burns will be looking to notch a few goals. With a big game on Sunday I’m sure the big man will want to be deadly efficient with his chances so he can wreak havoc on the evil empire of Colin Campbell come Sunday morning.

This game is what the IFA is all about, hopefully a fair good natured game (that we win) in the morning and then onto a boozer with the opposition fans for some food and ale. Support the lads in the afternoon to a big win for the first time in 20 years away at sunny Scunny and then return home.
