Comments on Opposition

The Internet Millers have only played the Watford IFA team in a full fixture once before, which was played on Herringthorpe playing fields in the 01/02 season and ended in a 1-1 draw. They have however drawn Watford 2^nd XI two years running in Worldnet. In 2003 the two teams met in the first round of the plate competition and IM went on to win 4-0 with player of the tournament Jammer playing a blinder. This year the scoreline was also 4-0 securing the Millers place in the cup. This performance owed a lot to the excellent finishing in the first half putting the game safe and allowing key players time to rest for the big Hearts game (which was also won.)

This time it looks like the Watford squad will be made up of a mixture of the 1^st and 2^nd teamers due to the post Worldnet decline in numbers that we are also suffering. This season Watford have played 8 games winning 3, drawing 2 and losing 3. It is however worth remembering that in the IFA teams don’t travel well so the game will be very tough. Watford originally had a 19 man squad so they will definitely have the bigger squad so we have to hope the numerous changes will disrupt their rhythm.

Watford will no doubt be confident of a home win with a strong squad.

Squad Comments

The squad travelling down is very strong in most areas.

Shark will start in goal looking for his fourth consecutive clean sheet. The stopper will have a strong defence in front of him with five defenders available, Mark, Denti, Dan, Dave and Dud’s. The flexibility of the defence means that the management team have the option of a back 3 or a back 4.

The midfield in the squad looks very defensively minded. Dud’s, JV, Dan, Andy P, John and Lee will be looking to stake their claim for the vacant centre midfield void. Dud’s played a spell in the middle at York with Dan while John looks to be make his return to the team due to his tax dodging in Leicester. Andy P has been a little under the weather with the expert diagnosis from Denti of ‘proper flu.’ He is feeling better after the prescription of wine gums worked a treat. Lee returns after a foot operation and will be looking to get some touches later on to boost his fitness.

Up front the team are at full strength. Steve Burns and Jebu will no doubt start with 20 goals between them this season. Chris has been putting in lots of work recently and will no doubt get a good chance up front. There are goals in the team with Andy and Dan both having notched in recent games.

Pre Match Comments

Watford are no doubt confident of a home result with a strong squad and home game. There may be times in the game when the Millers are under pressure but with a strong defence available they will be looking to keep the game tight.

If Jebu and Burns start well then the game could become tight but we have seen how starting the game slowly can put the team under pressure so it is important to stretch the legs after the long drive and start well.
