Comments on Opposition
The last time the Internet Millers played York City it was once again away at their ground with the infamous “wiggy” referee! It was one of Mr Burns better striking days as the Internet Millers ran out 5-1 winners with S.Burns bagging all 5 goals.
It was a very good performance on the day by the Internet Millers in what looked likely to be a tricky match given the Yorkie Bars results against IMFC the season before. The Millers drew 2-2 at home and lost 2-0 away in back to back games late at the end of that season. After these results the Millers went on an 8 game winning streak after a number of new signings that has only just recently been beaten as our best run of results.
It is York’s first game of the 2004/2005 IFA season so there is no recent results to give an indication of the strength of their side this season. However, results last season for the Yorkie Bars were mixed, their best results being a comprehensive win against Huddersfield 9-1 and a strong win against Doncaster 7-2. However, as well as the heavy 5-1 defeat against the Internet Millers the Yorkie bars struggled to heavy defeats against Motherwell, Darlington and Sheffield United. In other league games York lost 2 close matches against Hull, Macclesfield, Kiderminster and Huddersfield.
Despite York’s average record of the past season they will be confident going into the game having recorded the 7-2 victory over Doncaster and a respectable 3-3 draw with Sheff U in their last 2 competitive games in the IFA league. The Millers will be sure to not underestimate their opponents in one of the longest distance local teams we will compete against this season.
Squad Comments
The IMFC squad is in decent shape despite missing a number of familiar names from the squad list. For an away day match to York you can consider this a strong turnout and one that is more than capable of coming home with the points and enjoying their football.
In the net Shark will be looking to get a 3rd straight clean sheet. Good news for Mark the Shark is that every single defender available to IMFC, except Copey, are fit and in the squad. Denti, Mark, Duds, Paul El can all fit in and do a strong job in the back 3 throughout the game. A couple of these defenders will be asked to do wing back roles at some times throughout the match. This means that IMFC have a strong defensive looking lineup travelling to York.
Midfield is the weakest area for IMFC for the trip to York with a number of names missing. Gav, Gaz, Andy P, Jammer are all unavailable which restricts the available number of central midfielders. However, Bash has proven his worth in recent games and will be relishing this chance he has had to help command the centre of the park. Steve R will provide his experience, strength and vision in the middle of the park and his scoring record this year from midfield has been good. Dan will give the Millers an engine in the middle of the park with bags of energy and tackling. The only other recognisable midfielder is new recruit JV who will be looking to build on his good start against Scunthorpe out on one of the wing backs. With numbers limited in midfield a number of defenders and attackers may be falling into these positions later on throughout the game.
Up front both Jebu and Burns are itching to continue on from their last games for IMFC, both notching hatricks. With Jebu in Greece against Farnborough S.Burns completed a first half hatrick to just about kill the game. The week after with Jebu back off holiday Burnsy was struggling with a slight injury and missed the Scunthorpe game but J.Roebuck (Jebu) matched the first half hatrick of his strike partner from the week before to once again just about kill off the match. Youngster Chris Grist and Symon had half a game each up front against Scunthorpe and there services will be needed throughout this game. Look out for some of the strikers to be pushed back into midfield roles throughout the game.
Pre Match Comments
We cant expect anything from York City. We have to be prepared for a tough game as I have seen York at Worldnet play some good football and they have in their team players capable of scoring goals. If it is a similar York side that we beat 5-1 last season I am confident we can come away with a victory. However, we have to be prepared for a host of new faces and people and therefore concentration on our own game is the key.
If we keep up our average of 4 goals a game this season and the defence perform as well as they have done all season we have no need to fear anybody. Most importantly enjoy yourself and keep the game in the IFA spirit.
A full review of the game will be posted early next week.
Jebu out….
