Millers Thrash Darlo In Worldnet Re-run

After our meeting with Darlington at Worldnet 2005 (which we knocked them out of by beating them 2-0) we were keen to organise a game with them during the forthcoming season. Chit chat on the Darlington message board showed that their lads thought they were unlucky against us at Worldnet and would be keen to play us again, so they popped into play us en route to Mansfield.

However, a new formation for the Internet Millers saw us totally rip Darlington apart. Andy (the new manager) changed to a 4-5-1 formation, and unlike for Sven’s boys, this worked for the Internet Millers. Some confident, attacking football was played by the Millers, although we did not make a mark until the 30 minute mark. When the goal that had been promised eventually did come, it was through lone striker Steve Burns. He picked the ball up and went on a long run, beating three defenders and hitting home. They second goal was a rare goal from myself. It came after an IMFC corner was cleared only as far as Gaz, who crossed back in for me to head home at the near post. Gaz then added to the score himself, where he blasted a shot in from the edge of the area, and this was deflected past the keeper into the goal.

Half time came leaving the Millers to reflect on a successful new formation, with the five in midfield suiting Gaz, while leaving Lee and Dan to provide valuable defensive cover. Despite this, wholesale changes were to be made at half time and we reverted back to a 4-4-2 formation. The game did not change however, with the one-way traffic continuing and the Millers extending their lead. Gaz again was provider as his ball into the box was met by Burnsy, who lobbed over the oncoming keeper and was clattered in the process. Despite Burnsy’s departure the onslaught continued, and JV would finish off the scoring after beating three men on the edge of the box, and smashing past the helpless keeper. Final score 5-0.
