Scunny Smashed!!

Last updated : 29 January 2006 By Millersmad Staff

We have met Scunny four times in the last year so we know each other inside out and after our 1-1 draw at the group stages of Worldnet, they publicly claimed that they had worked us out and knew how to stop us. At this point I would encourage you to have another look at the score line.

We employed our new 4-5-1 formation and blitzed Scunny for the first 25 minutes and it was game over. Our first goal came when JV raced through on goal and the keeper saved when he should have scored, but the rebound fell to Burnsy who was 25 yards out and he found the net in fine style with the keeper stranded. It was role reversal soon after as Burnsy weaved his way through the defence and saw his shot saved. JV was on hand though to score with his left foot to make it 2-0. We were creating chances at will with JV, Burnsy and Denti all guilty of missing chances but it wasn’t long until we made it three and it was Burnsy who benefited from a goalkeeping error as he had one of his easier goals when the keeper inexplicably dropped a long throw. We continued to control the game but it wasn’t until just before half time that we scored another and it was a cracker. JV was through on goal and got chopped down about 22 yards out and from the resulting free kick Burnsy rocketed the ball in to the top corner to complete a fine hat trick.

As you would expect, Scunthorpe came out playing for pride and made it a little harder, turning the game in to a majorly scrappy affair. We came under a bit of pressure but Scunthorpe couldn’t really break us down and we extended the lead when Burnsy finished neatly after being put through to register his fourth of the game. There was just time for one more goal and it was a great one as well. From 25 yards out Gaz found the top corner with a curling shot to put the icing on what had been a great performance, particularly in the first half.

Our boys got showered and headed off for some food and drink before the afternoon game and by the time we were ready to leave, the Scunny lads were still locked in their dressing room having a heart to heart!
