Despite the home side taking the lead in the 14th minute, when Kevin Ellison struck the ball home with a low left-footed shot from the edge of the box, Chester's defending was woeful as they were hit by a goal barrage from Rotherham.

The visitors were unlucky when a fourth minute shot from Reid proved too hot to handle for keeper John Danby who could only parry the ball upward onto the bar and away for a corner.

On 26 minutes Reid hit his first, drawing his side level when Kevin Roberts handled a floated ball in the box, the City defender claiming he had been pushed as he did so.

The striker made no mistake from the spot sending John Danby the wrong way.

A superb run and shot from Chester's Laurence Wilson saw keeper Andy Warrington called into action as he palmed the ball away at full stretch in.

But the Millers went ahead seven minutes before the break when a Jamie Green cross from the left was met by a header from close range by Micky Cummins.

In first half added time Reid's cross deflected off Roberts and was headed home by Drewe Broughton. A fourth was added on 50 minutes as Reid hit a rising left footed strike which Danby could only touch on its way into the net.

Reid then struck the woodwork for a second time on the hour mark, before completing his hat-trick on 72 minutes with a superb right-footed shot as Chester completely folded.
