Rovers did all the damage at the start when Rotherham began the game in nightmare fashion. The visitors were caught napping at the back with all the goals coming in a hectic opening 21 minutes.

But it was United who were first to threaten before the goal avalanche with Rovers skipper Graeme Lee having to make a last-gasp tackle to prevent Stephen Quinn from scoring in the second minute.

John Mullin had a glancing header saved a minute later before the home side took charge with Neil Roberts opening their account in the sixth minute.

Recent loan signing Michael Timlin marked his debut by setting up the goal with a ball down the side of the visitors defence and Roberts turned to hit it past Gary Montgomery into the top corner.

Doncaster kept the pressure on with the wind behind them and Sean Thornton made it 2-0 four minutes later. James Coppinger dribbled through in fine style and when his fierce shot was blocked, Thornton pounced on the rebound to slot a low shot into the bottom corner.

Rotherham pulled one back in the 16th minute when on-loan Jonathan Forte outpaced the home defence on the left to fire home in fine style from a narrow angle.

The end to end action continued with Forte firing over the top after being set up by Lee Williamson, but the home side restored their two-goal advantage in the 21st minute and never looked back.

Lee set up Lewis Guy who raced on to his pass to flick the ball past the advancing Montgomery who was left in no-man's land.

The only surprise was that there were no more goals and although Rotherham tried to fight back, it was Doncaster who came closest to scoring.

Lee had a diving header cleared off the line and Kevin Horlock also went close with Neil Roberts having an effort disallowed for offside as Doncaster finished worthy winners.
