The visitors from League One had too much for the Millers on the night, showing a lesson in finishing and pace on the counter attack in a crazy evening that could have finished as a cricket score either way if truth be told.
Benik Afobe on loan from Arsenal and Jordan Rhodes both bagged a brace, Rhodes setting the tone in the very first minute as he curled the ball past Jamie Annerson.
Stephen Brogan led a bright Millers response as Nick Fenton headed over from his free kick, and on ten minutes the scores were level as Ryan Tayor fired home a sweet left footed effort from inside the area.
After Johnny Mullins went off injured, Luke Ashworth found Tom Pope with a long ball from the back, but his effort was saved by Ian Bennett.
The visitors then went ahead again on 22 minutes as Rhodes netted from close range and his superb night continued as he crossed for Afobe to head the third just before the half hour.
After the break Ashworth headed over from a corner as the Millers tried to press and create chances, but were sadly lacking in quality without Adam Le Fondre through illness.
Nicky Law's wind assisted dipping cross come shot on the hour was palmed over by Bennett but Arfield had tapped in for Town to make the game safe before then.
And the game was wrapped up when Afobe slid the ball under Annerson with the Millers caught square at the back pushing forward.
Ryan Cresswell headed an injury time consolation but not before the majority of the 2,000 crowd in the home end had departed.
