High flying Rotherham gave Macclesfield a lesson in clinical finishing as they moved to within two points of the top of League Two with a 2-0 win.
Macc huffed and puffed creating a succession of chances, but were left licking their wounds with a goal in either half from the Millers.
The visitors took the lead when arch predator Adam le Fondre turned provider delivering a pinpoint cross for Jason Taylor to loop a header over Jose Veiga from 12 yards.
Their second sealed the game in the 84th minute when Nick Fenton blasted home from the six-yard line after a Johnny Mullins volley had been blocked in a melee of players.
Macclesfield should have taken the lead in the third minute when Tom Newey set up Tyrone Barnett with a suicidal back pass only for the striker to lob the ball over the bar from 15 yards.
Barnett will feel aggrieved that he didn't earn a penalty in the 41st minute when Newey seemed to clip his heels in the box, much to the protests of Macc manager Gary Simpson. After the break Ross Draper and Hamza Bencherif both went close as Macc's pressure failed to tell.
