Craig Brown's Preston side were left still searching for their first win of the season after failing to break down Ronnie Moore's surprise Rotherham outfit.

Brown's men created the chances to seize victory but were denied by second-half heroics from Millers keeper Mike Pollitt.

Early on Jamaican Ricardo Fuller made a tremendous surging run demonstrating his skilful control and blistering pace as he skipped past four Rotherham defenders.

But with Richard Cresswell clear in the middle Fuller went on alone, but drove his shot wide of the target as Cresswell complained.

Earlier Eric Skora hit a shot over from the angle of the area after a short corner from Rob Edwards.

But Preston lived dangerously in the 25th minute when John Mullin's corner found Martin McIntosh whose powerful header almost crept over the line.

A follow-up shot from Chris Swailes hit a team-mate and Chris Scott fired the final shot wide of the target.

Rotherham's clever build-up involving Chris Sedgwick and Darren Byfield almost paid off but Stewart Talbot's shot deflected wide.

Fuller caused problems again with a slick break but scuffed his shot at the keeper and Fuller was the creator again at the end of the half when Skora was robbed as he sized up a shot.

But second-half heroics from Rotherham keeper Pollitt stopped Preston breaking the deadlock.

With the half only two minutes old Pollitt made a vital point blank connection as Cresswell stole in after a clever feed from Skora.

And when Dickson Etuhu made a stunning break down the right and swung in a clever lob Pollitt back-pedalled furiously and managed to finger-tip the chance away.

After 55 minutes Chris Lucketti produced a goalbound header from an Edwards corner, but somehow Pollitt steered it away from Cresswell.

And when Edwards produced another chance after finding space Pollitt did well with a diving save.

But at the other end Tepi Moilanen had to match his opposite number dropping save when Talbot headed Darren Garner's corner before repeating the save from a McIntosh header.

It was McIntosh who came close for Rotherham with another set piece but his free-kick was just off target
