Promotion-chasing Hull slip up at struggling RotherhamPromotion-chasing Hull were cut down to size by a superb performance from Rotherham, who won 2-0 in the Sky Bet Championship Yorkshire derby.Steve Bruce's men are expected to be among the candidates for an instant return to the Premier League but they showed few of the required credentials as they were outplayed and outfought by the struggling Millers.Neil Redfearn's men, who remain in the bottom three despite the vital three points, went ahead in the first half through Lee Frecklington's penalty and Joe Newell's 57th-minute strike sealed a thoroughly deserved victory.As good as the Millers were, Hull were not without their chances and Chuba Akpom twice struck the post in the second half, but it was not to be their day.There was little to choose between the two sides in the opening 25 minutes as Rotherham's five-man midfield kept Hull at bay.Just as the Tigers looked to be stealing a march, the hosts went ahead in the 28th minute.After Hull failed to clear a corner, Kirk Broadfoot was tripped by Moses Odubajo and after referee Eddie Ilderton had awarded a penalty, skipper Frecklington smashed home from the spot.Hull's response was good and they fashioned two excellent chances to draw level, but Jake Livermore's header was clawed away by Lee Camp and Akpom curled narrowly over from the edge of the area.The final five minutes of the first half was an onslaught as Bruce's men strived for a way back into the game and they were inches away when Akpom was denied on the line by a scrambling Camp, though it looked like the striker handled.Somehow Rotherham managed to get to the break with their advantage in tact, but their life did not get much easier after the restart and Hull could have been level within three minutes.Frecklington needlessly gave the ball away, the visitors broke and Akpom struck the post with a shot across the face of goal.Just when the Millers looked like they would be facing a half of defending, they crucially doubled their advantage just before the hour.Frecklington won the ball and poked it through to Newell, who blasted high into the net from eight yards.Not only did that give Rotherham some breathing space but it also put the wind back in their sails and they could have wrapped things up, only for Joe Mattock to drill straight at Allan McGregor and the impressive Danny Ward pinged a 20-yard shot wide.Hull's golden chance to give themselves hope of a fightback came in the 81st minute when Akpom raced clear after a defensive slip, but he rolled his effort into the same post that denied him earlier and the Millers survived.Harry Maguire missed a simple header from a corner and when Tom Huddlestone blazed over in injury time there was no doubting that it was the Millers' daySource : PA
