Keeper Danny Coyne was the hero as Burnley shut out Rotherham in a 0-0 draw at Millmoor which helped to preserve family pride in the Moore household.
Dad Ronnie Moore's Rotherham looked set to edge the win against his son Ian's Burnley side.
But it was Coyne, a summer capture from Leicester, who ended the hero after producing three sparkling second half stops.
First he dived full stretch after 50 minutes to turn round a blistering shot from Paul Shaw - on a three-month loan from Sheffield United.
Then he topped it with a remarkable double stop in the 75th minute as Rotherham looked dangerous again.
This time it was John Mullin who unleashed a fierce 25 yarder on the run that had Coyne stretching to his left. But he could only parry the shot and Michael Proctor darted in only to be blocked by the brave Coyne when he tried to lift a point blank effort over the keeper.
Burnley saw a string of chances go begging earlier in the game, thanks to Robbie Blake's wayward shooting and keeper Mike Pollitt's saves.
Blake blew a hat-trick of chances as Burnley had Rotherham in their sights in the first half.
The former Bradford star tormented Moore's Yorkshire outfit but was left frustrated.
He was in scoring mood after demonstrating clever control to wrong foot the home side after 12 minutes but then smashed his angled shot wide.
Then as Steve Cotterill's men carved out more chances Blake wasted a free-kick from 25 yards and two minutes later his low shot was coolly claimed by Pollitt.
Pollitt was in action again seven minutes before half-time to smother Michael Duff's header from Tony Grant's corner.
Rotherham might have rocked the visitors but Coyne produced as fine save to turn round Mullin's header after Chris Sedgwick's cross from the right.
