Moulin Rouge Yeovil Review: What a load of rubbish!

Last updated : 08 January 2005 By Denti

We were playing a team who ply their trade two levels below and we put in the most lethargic, care-free, uncommitted and rubbish performance that a under 15’s Sunday league team could have bettered. And although Yeovil played pretty well and were up for it, it was definitely a case of us making them look like World Beaters. In truth, the scoreline flattered their performance but it was a true reflection on our performance. People have said we were outclassed by them, a statement I don’t agree with. If you look at the facts they scored with a penalty and then their two late goals came when our centre back was playing centre forward leaving two on three at the back. Polly only had one save to make; yet we conceded three. So this makes our performance all the more difficult to take because if we would have played anywhere near as well as we did at Leicester or Millwall then we would have progressed easily.

The first half was a drab affair, with Yeovil looking quick and dangerous upfront but also a little suspect at the back, defending very high up the pitch. Yet in that first half despite the fact we weren’t playing well, we still created chances that should have been put away. McLaren went through on goal and wasted a chance, Macca blasted a knock down just over the bar when any shot on target would have been a goal and Proctor, Butler also had good half chances. We should have gone in ahead.

Giving our second halfitis this season we shouldn’t be surprised by the standard of play in the second half. Unfortunately, this was as bad as it’s been. We couldn’t pass, we didn’t win tackles, we didn’t pressurise, we never looked like scoring, we didn’t fight, we didn’t make the right choices, we looked like we’d never played together before and we looked like the lower league side. No positives came out of the half for us. That said, in terms of possession and territory we bossed that second half, it’s just that in ineptitude and downright rubbishness didn’t make it count. Their penalty, which was a definite one, came as a blow and their two goals on the attack were icing on the cake of a dire, dire, dire performance.

So, who’s to blame? Both players and manager for me. You can’t blame the manager for the players missing the chances in the first half. You can’t blame the manager for the players not making the right passes. However, you can blame the manager for the players not fighting and showing desire as he himself showed no passion or desire and unfortunately the crossed arms, shaking head is a pose we’ve seen only too often this season. People are now saying that Moore has to go, a lot of people who were in support of him prior to this debacle are seeing it as the straw that broke the camels back. I’m still not so sure, I just wish he showed us that he cares.

Just a note on the attendance. Shocking. We need the people of Rotherham to get behind the team, but if they are going to serve that up then who can blame them. It’s Wigan next for Rotherham. Me? I predict a Millers win.
